First, find a bank that is near your home or office. Life is too short (and commutes are too long) to spend time driving to the bank. Plus, many banks charge high ATM and other fees, so it pays to have the lowest cost option nearby.
Next, take a look at the websites for different banks. This will give you a good idea of the services each offers and the fees they charge. Consider your needs. If you primarily use a bank for checking, try to find a bank with free checking. If you prefer a one-stop shop for your financial needs, try to find a bank that offers a variety of loan products, mortgages, credit cards, CDs, checking accounts, and savings accounts.
Finally, visit the bank in person. If you like to see a teller in person, make sure the lines are short and that the staff is courteous. If you prefer to use a drive-thru window, make sure this option is available.
